About
K-5 students will learn about the main story and characters of a classic opera, The Magic Flute. During the lesson, students will listen to the overture and different arias, learn more about this exciting adventure story, and identify the emotions those arias convey.
- Students will be able to describe the terms opera and aria in their own words, using characters and arias from The Magic Flute as examples.
- Students will be able to identify and name at least two specific emotions (e.g., joy, anger) when listening to the overture or an aria and explain their reasons using musical elements such as tempo or the character’s context in group discussion.
- Students will be able to explain how arias reveal a character’s personality, feelings, or motivations in The Magic Flute, such as Tamino’s romance or the Queen of the Night’s fury, through group discussion and their costume design descriptions.
