About
- Discuss with your child some goals you’d like to accomplishment together. Some examples for school readiness are:
- Using the bathroom without assistance
- Dressing themselves
- Putting clothes away
- Washing hands without constant reminders
- Putting on shoes
- Putting away dishes
- Eating lunch within 15-20 minutes and putting food back in the lunchbox when finished
- Practicing opening food containers and items with assistance
- Keep track of their goals using the I Can Do It! Goal Tracker.
- When your child completes a goal, decorate a I Can Do It! Badge to celebrate and display their achievement!
- Keep going for as many goals as you need to get your child school ready!
Tips:
• Praise effort and perseverance to keep children trying!
• Normalize mistakes: Let your child see you make mistakes and work through them. This helps them understand that it’s okay to not get things right on the first try.
• Set developmentally appropriate goals for success! Talk to your doctor or teacher about what are some goals you can set together for your child.
